PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insert which secures thickness with a flank of a main cutting edge in a center part of a ridge part close to a mounting hole to insert a clamp screw, and prevents biting of cutting chips. SOLUTION: In this cutting insert, a rake face 2 is formed in one polygonal surface of an insert main body 1 formed into a polygonal flat plate shape. In the ridge part of the one polygonal surface, a side surface of the insert main body 1 is made as a flank 4, and the main cutting edge 7 extending from a corner edge 6 on one end part side of the ridge part toward a corner part 9 at the other end part is formed. In the flank 4, a recessed curved surface part 4B formed into a recessed curved line shape toward the other polygonal surface side of the insert main body 1 in cross section orthogonal to the ridge part and gradually retreating is formed. A radius of curvature in cross section orthogonal to the ridge part of the recessed curved surface part 4B is made larger in the center part of the ridge part than those on the one end part side and the other end part side.
