The pneumotachograph (1) has a processor (3), and a positive end-expiratory pressure valve (PEEP) valve (4) attached at an exhaling side of the pneumotachograph. A filter (5) is mounted at an inhaling side on the pneumotachograph for removing a portion of a component in inspiration air to be determined. A sensor (7) is mounted in or on a pneumotachograph tube (6). The pneumotachograph tube has an opening (8) on a sensor side in the sensor and/or a unit for sampling unit and an optical and/or acoustic control device (9) for the expiration flow. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining components in expiration volume by a portable pneumotachograph.
