<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more efficiently producing a useful substance by enhancing reactivity without lowering the flow rate and improving the productivity, in the method for producing the useful substance including carrying out reaction by making a liquid mixture forming two liquid phases flow into a fixed-bed reaction column in which an immobilized enzyme is packed. <P>SOLUTION: A method for producing a useful substance includes supplying a liquid mixture forming two liquid phases to a fixed-bed reaction column packed with an immobilized enzyme and reacting the two phases while causing them to flow in the same direction. In the production method, the fixed-bed reaction column is one in which partition plates have been inserted in the longitudinal direction for the fixed-bed reaction column so as to form a plurality of tubular structures each having a circular or polygonal cross section which is not closed at least partly and has a representative length of 100 mm or smaller.
