<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus speedily forming an image when a standby mode for saving energy is canceled. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a main body 10 carrying out image formation, a paper feeder 4 which is freely attachable/detachable, a power source 80 supplying power source to the main body 10 and the paper feeder 4, a first control part 81 controlling the main body 10, a second control part 82 controlling the paper feeder 4, an opening/closing detection part 86 detecting opening/closing of a paper feeding cassette 41a, a paper feeding roller 41b taking out paper P from the paper feeding cassette 41a, and a lift part 43 lifting the paper P in the paper feeding cassette 41a to a position abutting to the paper feeding roller 41b. The image forming apparatus stops power source supply for a driving system for the main body 10, a driving system for the paper feeder 4 and the second control part 85 in the standby mode for energy saving, carries out power source supply to the first control part 81 and the opening/closing detection part 86.
