PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image feature extracting device for extracting new feature data available in recognizing an object from image data. SOLUTION: The image feature extracting device calculates an edge vector including information on a tilt direction and a tilt amount of brightness in each pixel. Next, by auto correlation only in a local area in an image, correlation of an angle of the edge vector is further obtained with respect to a pixel combination corresponding to the auto correlation of the position. The feature amount is regarded as integration value in the whole area of correlation value. Correlation information between the tilt direction of the brightness and the position is obtained, which is obtained by extracting curvature information of an outline curve or brightness value curve of an object, so that image information on the object is effectively extracted and identification performance is improved. Also, since a plurality of objects can be simultaneously recognized without cutting out the object, it is not necessary to recognize beforehand the number and location of the objects.
