<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can satisfactorily carry out new-product detection and type detection and can reduce the size of a developer cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The developer cartridge 28 comprises rotational arms 84 and 85 rotating together with a rotation body 80. A main body casing 2 has a swingable detecting arm 93; a detecting means (photosensor 92) configured to detect the swing of the detecting arm 93; and a determining means configured to carry out the new-product detection and the type detection according to a presence of a swing of the detecting arm 93 detected by the detecting means and a number of swings detected by the detecting means. When the developer cartridge 28 is attached, one rotational arm 84 allows the detecting arm 93 to swing in one direction, and the rotation body 80 rotates in a direction where the rotational arm 84 retreats from the detecting arm 93, and when the developer cartridge comprises the second rotational arm 85, the second rotational arm 85 allows the detecting arm 93 to swing in the other direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
