PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake control device for an internal combustion engine for controlling the opened/closed condition of an on/off valve in an intake passage cross section varying mechanism to mainly improve the response of a supercharger. SOLUTION: In this device, the target condition of the on-off valve is set to be the opened condition in regions 1, 2 corresponding to a partial load operation region. Thus, pump loss is reduced in the partial load operation region to improve fuel consumption. On the other hand, the target condition of the on-off valve is set to be the closed condition in a region 3 as a high-load operation low-rotation region and to be opened condition in a region 4 as a high-load operation high-rotation region. Thus, torque in a low-rotation region and torque in a high-rotation region are both improved. When sudden acceleration is required in the case that the target condition is the opened condition (particularly in the regions 1, 2), the target condition is changed from the opened condition into the closed condition and then the target condition is fixed into the closed condition until predetermined conditions are established.
