PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of accurately monitoring the running of yarn thread such as synthetic fiber thread without contact. SOLUTION: The running monitoring device 10 for the yarn thread comprises a light source 14 for emitting a light L irradiated to the yarn thread 12, a light guiding means 16 for vertically irradiating the light L to the yarn thread 12 and guiding a reflected light from the yarn thread 12 to a direction different from that of the light source 14, and a means 20 receiving the reflected light from the yarn thread 12 by an imaging device 18 and detecting movements of the yarn thread 12 from relative change per unit time of output of the imaging device 18.
