PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve sheet detection signal sensitivity to distinguish a single sheet and multi-layered sheet in the sheet processing machine. SOLUTION: The machine of a type having a capacitive sensor 7, an ultrasonic sensor 6 and an assessment unit 8, where the sheet detection signal to distinguish a single sheet and multi-layered sheet is formed in the assessment unit 8 depending upon the output signal from the capacitive sensor 7 and/or the ultrasonic sensor 6, is provided with a sensitivity adjustment means for adjusting the capacitive sensor 7 and/or the ultrasonic sensor 6.
