An erosion protection device is described which is made of two or more co mponents. Each component has an edge, surfaces on respective sides of the ed ge and at least one joining portion (a joining portion of a component compri ses a recess in the edge and receiving portions on respective sides of the e dge). Each recess has a base which is indented relative to the edge, and sid ewalls which diverge as they extend from the base out to the edge. The recei ving portions diverge relative to each other with the same slope as the side walls as they extend from adjacent the base of the recess away from the edge towards the respective surfaces. When joining two components together, a bo nding medium is applied to the joining portion on one or both components. Th e joining portions are then brought together such that the space between the sidewalls and receiving portions of one component and the receiving portion s and sidewalls respectively of the other component diminishes thereby squee zing the bonding medium therebetween as the components come together.
