<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic device capable of preventing the erroneous detection of the life of a replaceable unit. <P>SOLUTION: Setting related to types inputted through a UI part 112 is received by a type acquiring part 206 of a life detection program 200 operated on the electronic device, and whether the currently attached developer storage part 50 is an original manufacturer's product or not is judged by the part 206. Whether the type represents that the developer storage part 50 is the original manufacturer's product or another product is judged by a type judgement part 208 in terms of respective types stored in a type storage part 202.
