<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and quickly perform previous calibration processing to accurately read a reference pattern formed on an intermediate transfer body without causing the productivity to deteriorate. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a sensor configured to detect toner density on the intermediate transfer body, based on light reflected in reply to photoirradiation, in the case of primarily transferring a toner image from an image carrier to the endless intermediate body, and then secondarily transferring the toner image on a recording paper to form the image; and a control means configured to store a detection voltage by the amount of one rotation of the intermediate transfer body, with no toner image on the surface thereof, outputted from the sensor at the start of operation after the stop or pause, as an operation start-time base voltage in a storage means, and then, to adjust the photoirradiation of the sensor in the midst of the image forming operation as the prestage of the calibration operation so that the detection voltage (base voltage during the image forming operation), detected in area other than the image forming area on the intermediate transfer body and outputted from the sensor, agrees with the operation start-time base voltage, at a position that corresponds to the position where "the base voltage during the image forming operation" is detected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
