<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor driving device capable of causing a driving object to be displaced at a minute speed, irrespective of fluctuation of a load. <P>SOLUTION: Upon completion of image formation processing, a printer to which this device is applied drives a carriage using a motor, allows the carriage to move toward a capping position and caps a recording head mounted on the carriage. In moving the carriage to the capping position, the printer repeats operations of dropping an input current amount I to the motor to an initial value Ikeep, every time a position coordinate P(n) of the carriage increases by one and then gradually increasing the current I from the initial value, thereby moving the carriage at a minimum speed. In this case, if the speed of the carriage becomes a reference value or larger due to the fluctuations of the load, the printer decreases the initial value Ikeep by a predetermined amount so as to suppress the speed of the carriage.
