PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer printing error indication in the printable range of a recording sheet without printing a part of a printing range of printing data in the case it is determined that the printing range of the printing data exceeds the printable range of the recording sheet. SOLUTION: Received communication command is developed to a barcode 18 and character data 23 as the printing data in a RAM and the printing range of the barcode 18 and the character data 23 are determined and stored. On the other hand, the printable range of a label 22 is recorded in an EEPROM. Printing can be normally carried out in the case it is determined that the printing range of the barcode 18 is within the printable range of the label 22 by the determining section of an application program and an X mark 19 is printed within the printable range of the label 22 in the case it is determined that the printing range of the barcode 18 exceeds the printable range of the label 22.
