A paper sheet conveying device adapted such that it has conveying passages (22) each defining a conveyance zone formed between each of inner conveying bodies (51) and each of outer conveying bodies (52) and such that the inner conveying bodies (51) are moved and separated from the outer conveying bodies (52) with the same maintenance space (221) shared by the inner conveying bodies (51). When a jam occurs in a conveying passage (22), the inner conveying bodies(51) are moved and separated from the outer conveying bodies (52) with the maintenance space (221) shared, and this opens the conveying passages (22). Because the removal of jammed paper money and the maintenance operation, such as repair or inspection of the conveying passages (22), can be performed with the maintenance space (221) shared by the inner conveying bodies (51), the maintenance operation for the conveying passages (22) can be easily performed.
