PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a reduced number of transformers equilibrating currents respectively flowing through a plurality of discharge tubes of a multi-discharge tube lighting device. SOLUTION: The multi-discharge tube lighting device includes: (n) sets of discharge tube units 1-n each having one or more discharge tubes 1a and 2a formed into a U-shaped form, a first winding 1b and a second winding 2b; and an A.C. power source 10 generating A.C. voltages having phases reverse to each other from first and second output terminals 10a and 10b connected to one-side ends and the other-side ends of the discharge tube units 1-n, respectively. The first winding 1b of the first discharge tube unit 1 is electromagnetically coupled to the second winding 2b of the n-th discharge tube unit (n) through the transformer T<SB>n</SB>; the respective first windings 1b of the second and subsequent discharge tube units are respectively electromagnetically coupled to the second windings 2b of the prior discharge tube units through the transformers T<SB>1</SB>-T<SB>n-1</SB>; and the respective second windings 2b of the second and subsequent discharge tube units are respectively electromagnetically coupled to the first windings 1b of the subsequent discharge tube units through the transformers T<SB>2</SB>-T<SB>n-1</SB>.
