PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cause a vehicle to appropriately run according to the conditions of a road. SOLUTION: When the road on which the vehicle is running is congested, the running mode Rm is set to economy mode (S210, S220). When the road on which the vehicle is running is not congested and the current road category Rd, which indicates the category to which a road belongs, is expressway, suburban road, or mountain road, the running mode Rm is set to power mode (S230 to S250, S270). When the current road category Rd is urban street, the running mode Rm is set to economy mode (S260, S220). When the current road category Rd is not expressway, suburban road, mountain road, or urban street, the running mode Rm is set to normal mode (S280). A request torque of a motor is set based on an accelerator opening and the running mode Rm, and the motor is controlled with this request torque.
