PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently suppress a memory from being full of a portable storage medium in the middle of writing data corresponding to an image read from an original in the portable storage medium and the generation of an alarm even though there is a sufficient free capacity in the portable storage medium in an image reader provided with a read means for reading the image from the original and a write means for writing the data corresponding to the image read by the read means in the portable storage medium. SOLUTION: In a step S2, copy setting such as a resolution, a read size and a color are confirmed, and a scheduled capacity A as a capacity of a USB memory required for writing the data corresponding to the image of the original is predicted. In a succeeding step S3, a free capacity of the USB memory as the write destination of the data is detected, and when the free capacity is smaller than the scheduled capacity A, a possibility of the memory to be full is reported in a step S7.
