PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit wear in an area where a piston slides in a cylinder in an external combustion engine converting displacement of liquid of working medium generated by volume fluctuation of the working fluid to mechanical energy and outputting the same. SOLUTION: This engine includes: a vessel 11 filled with the liquid working medium 12 and lubricating oil 13 having different density from that of the liquid working medium 12 in such a manner that they can flow; a heating means 14 heating the working medium 12 in the vessel and generating vapor; a cooling medium 15 cooling and liquefying vapor of the working fluid 12; and the piston 16 sliding in the cylinder 17 by displacement of liquid of the working medium 12 generated by volume fluctuation of the working fluid 12. The lubricating oil 13 is supplied to a region which is positioned between the working medium 12 and the piston 16, and in which the piston 16 slides in the cylinder 17. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
