This invention relates to overcharge protection and molecular redox shutt les in rechargeable lithium-ion cells. For this, specific nitroxyls or oxoam monium salts are used in the electrolyte. This invention also relates to a m ethod of producing such lithium-ion cells and to a method of recharging such lithium-ion cells. This invention also pertains to some nitroxyls compounds and oxoammonium salts.
