Printing apparatus (S') comprising printing means (3) having printing mea ns motor (M'1, M'2) cutting means (7') having a cutting means motor (M'1, M' 2), a means for controlling the printing means motor and the cutting means m otor (M'), wherein the control means comprises electronic software and/ or f irmware, and does not include hardware common to the motors, such as a commo n shaft drive as in the prior art. The apparatus ( S') also comprises a fold ing means (7') having a folding means motor (M') also controlled by the cont rol means. This arrangement provides a particularly advantageous effect, whe reby the motors (M') are independently driven, but commonly controlled.
