<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize toner fixing performance and reduce load on a fixing device, by preventing significant decrease and increase of a fixing temperature. <P>SOLUTION: The ROM 620 of a control section 600 stores in advance, as fixing temperature control data, a relation between paper information about two or more types of paper on which an image is to be formed and a control temperature. The fixing temperature control data is determined based on the result of the measurement of the decreased temperature of the peripheral face of a heat roller 37A when a sheet of paper passes through the fixing device 37. A CPU 610 stores the history of the type of paper used for each image forming process into the memory area MA1 of the RAM 630. During the maintenance of the image forming apparatus 100, the CPU 610 reads the control temperature corresponding to the type of paper that is used most frequently, from the fixing temperature control data in the ROM 620 with reference to contents stored in the memory area MA1.
