PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting focus capable of surely and stably detecting the image of an object, with respect to the focus detecting device in which a plurality of focus detection regions are arranged in the aligning direction of the pixels of a photoelectric conversion element array. SOLUTION: A plurality of effective pixel regions 21a constituting a plurality of islands are arranged along the alignment direction of the pixels of the photoelectric conversion element array 21, and an ineffective pixel region 21b is arranged between the respective effective pixel regions 21a. According to such an arrangement, the islands are adhered and arranged closely, to surely detect the image of the object; and even if the islands are adhered and arranged closely, a charge obtained at each effective pixel in the island can be detected stably.
