PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for realizing a route display and a symbol display that are matched with a three-dimensional graphic display. SOLUTION: This navigation apparatus/method calculates the altitude of each point in a route on the basis of altitude data, generates three-dimensional route information set by using the calculated height data as a parameter, and displays the three-dimensional route information. The navigation apparatus/method calculates the height of a vehicle, generates own vehicle symbol data set by using the calculated information as a parameter for three-dimensional display information, and displays the driver's own vehicle symbol data. Furthermore, the point of view of a camera is set so as to be positioned higher than the altitude of the own vehicle. This constitution makes it possible to display data, matched with three-dimensional graphic data serving as background data, which enables the accurate recognition of a difference in elevation.
