PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of reading the image of an original by changing the focusing of a line sensor during reading the original without adding a driving mechanism for changing a relative distance between the line sensor for reading the original being conveyed and the reading surface of the original. SOLUTION: The line sensor 40 is moved by a CR motor 65 by opposing to a first glass 18 or a second glass 20. The reading area of the line sensor 40 in the original to be conveyed along a conveyance passage 12 is divided into the first area and the second area. The processing is performed based on the image of the original obtained by pre-scanning or user setting. When the original being conveyed is finally scanned, the relative distance between the reading surface 25 of the original and the line sensor 40 on the first glass 18 is changed with respect to first and second areas by driving the CR motor 65.
