PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely control constant light volume of a light source, regardless of the number of light emitting points. SOLUTION: A light volume controller controls output light volume of an LD6 which performs optical writing. It comprises a switching element 5 which supplies drive currents to the LD6 based on an LD lighting signal 11, DAC2, V/I converter 3, a current amplifier 4 for determining the amount of drive current supplied to the LD6 from the switching element 5, a PD7 and I/V converter 8 which receives light emitted from the LD6 and outputs a voltage according to the received volume of light, and a CPU1 which sets the amount of drive current based on the detection value detected with the PD7 and I/V converter 8.
