PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for manufacturing a spiral steel pipe, which apparatus can suppress a zigzag motion of a steel band supplied into a forming machine, and also can excellently and quickly carry out the edge preparation for both edges of the steel band without relying upon the cutting method. SOLUTION: In the apparatus for manufacturing the spiral steel pipe, a rolling type edge preparation machine 3 for supplying the steel band 5 into the forming machine 4 while carrying out the edge preparation by rolling both edge portions of the steel band 5 is arranged on the inlet side of the forming machine 4 for forming the steel band 5 into the spiral pipe 50. The rolling type edge preparation machine 3 has a pair of edge pinch rollers 30a, 30b for gripping the steel band 5. Rolling portions 31 are formed on both end portions of the edge pinch rollers 30a, 30b so as to enlarge outward in a tapered shape. Both end portions of the steel band 5 in the direction of the width are held by the rolling portions 31 in the positioned state, and the edge preparation are carried out on the both end portions. Therefore, the steel band 5 is supplied into the forming machine 4 while carrying out the edge preparation on the edge portions in the state that the zigzag motion in the direction of the width is suppressed.
