PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize recording medium deformation by a clamp on the medium placing surface of a spindle motor. SOLUTION: The spindle motor has a shaft, a rotor, and a medium placing surface. The rotor is arranged at an outer periphery side of the shaft and turns around the shaft. The medium placing surface is provided on the rotor to place the disk recording medium. The recording medium is pressed to the medium placing surface by the clamp to fix. The clamp is a component to press the recording medium to the medium placing surface. The average Lpave of the width Lpk of the hill is smaller than the average Lvave of the width Lvk of the dale on the radially cut average cross section curve of the medium placing surface.
