PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To indicate a shift to a gear for reducing fuel consumption. SOLUTION: An ECU executes a program including a step (S10) of detecting the gear selected at present in a transmission, a step (S20) of determining a target gear in response to a shift chart, a step (S30) of calculating the first fuel consumption being fuel consumption of an engine when requiring no fuel addition for regenerating a catalyst on the present gear and the target gear, a step (S40) of calculating the second fuel consumption being fuel consumption when requiring the fuel addition on the present gear and the target gear, a step (S70) of determining whether or not the fuel consumption in the target gear is smaller than the fuel consumption in the present gear, and a step (S80) of indicating the shift to the target gear when the second fuel consumption in the target gear is smaller than the fuel consumption in the present gear (YES in S70).
