A motor vehicle with bodywork which can be converted while the basic body (1) is unchanged, a lowerable roof part (4) and a tailgate (5) with a rear window (8), which tailgate can be raised in order to lower the roof part, is intended to be able to be converted with as little outlay as possible into a coupe, a roadster, a landaulet and into a Targa®. According to the invention, the tailgate (5) has side parts (6, 7) which reach upwards over the belt line (2) and have an upper contour (24) which drops rearwards and the front edge parts (23) of which form an extension of the pillars (20), which reach as far as the belt line (2), of the basic body (1), and, in a first position, the rear window (8) follows the dropping, upper contour (24) of the side parts (6, 7) and bears in a sealing manner against the side parts (6, 7) and against the closed roof part (4), and can be pivoted into a second, approximately horizontal position (8') in which it rests in a sealing manner on the tailgate (5).
