The device has a coding wheel containing a ferromagnetic active section exhibiting material discontinuity and/or material thickness changes. The coding wheel is arranged on a circulating element opposite to an idle receiver arrangement. A reed switch (1) is arranged in a proximity of a magnet in such a manner that a position of the reed switch depends on an angular position of the coding wheel. The magnet is arranged between the coding wheel and the reed switch. A printed circuit includes an electronic circuit to process an output signal of the reed switch.
