POWER AMPLIFIER

A power amplifier which can improve power added efficiency through a simple arrangement. In the power amplifier (100), a peak amplifier operating state detecting section (109) detects whether the operating state of a peak amplifier (103) is in an off state or not, and, when the peak amplifier operating state detecting section (109) detects the off state of the peak amplifier (103), a distribution sate switching section (108) stops or reduces power distribution to the peak amplifier (103). When the peak amplifier (103) is in an off state, input power to the peak amplifier (103) side is supplied to a carrier amplifier (102) side, and the power added efficiency is improved because input power distributed to the peak amplifier (103) is not wasted.
