The method involves filling a feed hopper for raw material with a raw material, and feeding the raw material to a plastification device with plastification screws that are drivable in a plastification cylinder in a rotatable manner. Direct and/or indirect operating parameters of the plastification device are measured. A fluid level of the raw material is influenced in the feed hopper and is adjusted and/or maintained in a valve within a fluid level range corresponding to an optimal operating parameter range.
