PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a focus state with higher accuracy without hindering smooth imaging operation while reflecting the intention of a photographer performing a manual focus operation. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus capable of selecting a manual focus mode or auto-focus mode includes: control means 115 and 105 for auto-focus controlling an imaging lens 101; and an imaging operation member 123 (or 124) operated to instruct to execute an imaging sequence. When the manual focus mode is selected, the control means controls, according to the operation of the imaging operation member, the position of a focus lens within a second range narrower than the first range where control is made in a state the autofocus mode is selected.
