PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To positively prevent added fuel from flowing into a cylinder in a control device of an internal combustion engine even when the fuel is added to exhaust gas from a fuel adding injector during execution of internal EGR. SOLUTION: The control device is equipped with the fuel adding injector installed in an exhaust manifold or a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine for adding fuel to exhaust gas. When the internal EGR is performed by providing a valve overlap wherein valve opening periods of an exhaust valve and an intake valve overlap with each other, when fuel is injected from the fuel adding injector, the starting timing of a reverse flow in an exhaust port of a cylinder closest to the fuel adding injector is estimated, and the fuel addition from the fuel adding injector is ended or interrupted before the estimated reverse flow starting timing.
