PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective and adequate method of easily and rationally extending a base-isolated building. SOLUTION: The method of extending the base-isolated building is implemented by stepwise constructing a base-isolated structure which is seismically isolated and supported by base isolators. According to the method, firstly, an antecedent building 1 as the base-isolated building which is seismically isolated and supported by the base isolators 3, is antecedently constructed, and put into service. Thereafter, an extended building 4 which is seismically isolated and supported by the base isolators 3 is constructed in a space for extension secured on the periphery of the antecedent building, and then the extended building is connected to the antecedent building via damping members 5, to thereby put the entire body of the antecedent building and the extended building into service as a new base-isolated building.
