PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system precisely and surely estimating and compensating an arrival time error in an ultrasonic system. SOLUTION: This method compensates a beam formation time delay in the ultrasonic system 10. This method includes a step for transmitting ultrasonic energy beam into an object with a transmission beam formation time delay. This method further includes a step for receiving a plurality of echo signals using a reception beam formation time delay, and a step for estimating a beam formation time delay error for every echo signal and for every image-pickup direction. This method further includes a step for compensating the transmission and reception beam formation time delays and a step for creating an ultrasonic image of the object using the compensated transmission and reception beam formation time delays.
