A sound field reproducing device comprises signal acquiring means for acquiring input audio signals of a plurality of channels, effect adding means for adding an acoustic effect to each input audio signal and outputting the resultant input audio signals, and effect level control means for controlling the acoustic effect levels added to the input audio signals according to the characteristics of the input audio signals. The sound filed reproducing device receives the input audio signals of the channels from media such as DVDs and add acoustic effects and outputs the resultant signals. The levels of the acoustic effects added to the input audio signals are controlled according to the characteristics of the input audio signals, particularly the degree of the cross-correlation of the reverb components between the channels.
