<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour extraction device, capable of ensuring high performance by using the property in which no start point appears in a grid next a grid between pixels where a double start point is detected to transfer one of two registrations of start point coordinate necessary for processing the double start point to the next grid to thereby distribute the processing, so that each grid can be processed by the same cycle number. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a means for detecting an end point of a horizontal vector; a means for registering the end point; a means for detecting a double end point; and a means for storing connection information of the horizontal vector, in which a double end point to be registered is detected by the double end point detection means, the coordinate of the end point is registered twice to two grids between pixels.
