<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a small-sized ophthalmic photographing apparatus using an LED light emitting device for its light source. <P>SOLUTION: In an LED illumination light source unit 15, a plurality of white light LEDs 15a as a photographing light source emitting light of the entire optical wavelengths and near infrared radiation LEDs 15b as an observation light source emitting near infrared rays with the peak of about 850 nm are arranged along a ring-like opening of a pupil stop 14. These white light LEDs 15a and near infrared ray LEDs 15b are each arranged alternately at equal intervals. The eyeground is irradiated with uniform light distribution and the observation and photographing of high-quality eyeground images irradiated with appropriate illumination. The LED illumination light source unit 15 uses both observation and photographing light sources in common, and need no mechanism or the like to attach/detach a wavelength selection filter such as an infrared cut filter.
