PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for an electric double-layer capacitor which has high thermal resistance and high durability, which is excellent in terms of withstand voltage, which has high conductivity, and which is not coagulated in a wide temperature range, and the electric double-layer capacitor. SOLUTION: An electrolyte for an electric double-layer capacitor is formed by dissolving in the mixed solvent of propylene carbonate and sulfolane, quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate represented by the general formula 1.
