<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal voltage generation circuit for stably generating internal voltage at a necessary voltage level from a step-up voltage generated by charge pump operation in a small occupation area with low current consumption. <P>SOLUTION: According to a comparison result between output voltage Vcpr of an output node 50 and reference voltage Vref, an amount of drive current of a drive transistor 46 for driving the output node 50 is adjusted. With regard to the output node, current is supplied by an output voltage line 38 of a charge pump circuit. Breakdown voltage reduction circuits 52 and 53 are provided between the output voltage line 38 of the charge pump circuit and a differential amplifying circuit 44 and between the output voltage line 38 and the output node 50.
