PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method which perform secured determination whether an information recording medium is in a state in which postscript of data is possible. SOLUTION: A state determination processing which determines whether an information recording medium is in a state in which postscript of data is possible, or whether it is in a finalized state is performed in an information processor for example, such as a video camera. When it is determined that the information recording medium is not in a state in which postscript of data is possible based on the state determination processing, a notification processing which notifies that the information recording medium is not in the state in which postscript is possible is performed. A user becomes possible to know whether postscript for the information recording medium is possible by this configuration. Since the configuration is made to determine whether the information recording medium is in the state in which data postscript is possible by checking the number of entries of a back up directory where backup data is stored based on the finalized processing, more secured confirmation processing of a postscript possible state is achieved.
