PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire grate element properly used in a large-scaled combustion furnace. SOLUTION: This fire grate element 1 integrally manufactured with cast steel has two parallel cooling ducts K1, K2 connected by a transfer region U. A direction changing portion 8 generating disturbed flow is charged inside of the ducts from outer walls 6, 7 and an intermediate wall 5. The direction changing portion 8 forms a bent flow channel, and inhibits the formation of bubbles stagnating inside of the fire grate element. A cross-section of the flow of the transfer region U is preferably larger than cross-sections of the cooling ducts K1, K2. An overhanging cleaning device 12 for periodically cleaning combustion residue accumulated near an air inlet opening, extends from an end of an outer face of each fire grate element, and is cooperated with an air inlet opening 11 formed on the fire grate element positioned at its lower part.
