A method and a system for providing a supplementary service menu for cable broadcasting are provided to divide broadcasting channels having similar contents according to a category and offer a supplementary service menu screen according to the divided broadcasting channels, thereby enabling a user to search a desired channel quickly easily. A method for providing a supplementary service menu for cable broadcasting comprises the following steps of: receiving plural cable broadcasting signals including identification information according to a category(S11); processing the received cable broadcasting signals(S12); determining whether a user requests a channel menu screen through the channel menu key of a key input unit(S14); generating a channel menu window(S15); displaying the generated channel menu window on a display unit(S16); and displaying the cable broadcasting screen of a channel selected by a user(S17).
