<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a catalyst which is used for asymmetric aldol reactions in water and can overcome the problem of substrate generality, and to provide a reaction system in which an aldehyde compound except formaldehyde can be used as a reaction substrate. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing a β-hydroxycarbonyl compound comprises reacting a silicon enolate with formaldehyde or another aldehyde compound in the presence of a catalyst obtained by mixing a Lewis acid such as Sc(DS)<SB>3</SB>with a ligand represented by formula (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each isopropyl, or the like; R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each H, or the like; X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each OH or the like) of the figure in water. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
