PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method for acquiring a cut face, having high smoothness, when a block sample made of a polymer material is to be cut by a microtome. SOLUTION: The cutting method include steps wherein a sample containing a polymer material, of which the glass transition temperature is between 65-200°C, is fixed to the microtome provided with a heating means; the block sample is held by the heating means within a temperature range between a temperature (°C), acquired by multiplying by 0.4 the glass transition temperature (°C) of the polymer material or higher, and the temperature (°C) which is obtained by multiplying 0.9 to the glass transition temperature (°C) of the polymer material or lower, and is cut by the microtome with respect to the block sample within the temperature range.
