PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface inspection method of a magnesium containing material capable of visually recognizing even a minute defect without using an expensive machine. SOLUTION: A magnesium color coupler which reacts with magnesium or magnesium compound and colors is made to react with magnesium or magnesium compound existing in a surface of the magnesium containing material, thereby selectively coloring the magnesium color coupler.
