PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel insect pest repellent against mites, mosquitoes and the like. SOLUTION: The novel ester compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>represents hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a methoxy group; and R<SP>2</SP>represents a 1-16C hydrocarbon group optionally containing an oxygen atom or a halogen atom) has been found to exhibit excellent repelling effects against mites, mosquitoes and the like.
