<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical stapling device with an anvil having staple forming pockets of varying depths. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical stapling device includes an end effector having an anvil provided with a staple forming surface defining a plurality of staple forming pockets. A first group of a plurality of the staple forming pockets have a first depth. A second group of a plurality of the staple forming pockets have a second depth.
